Brent Matusik: Project M/ Burning Effigy

For Project M: Rebirth1349 For Burning Effigy: theburningeffigy Music has always been an integral part of my life, because even when life was slapping me in the face, music has always been there for me. I started to show interest in music as young as one years old, so it was only a logical progression that I take up an instrument. I initially started on piano, and played that for 6 years. I later took up Clarinet, but the two instruments just didn't do it for me. One day, my father accidently loaded three Iron Maiden songs from my brother's library on to my Ipod when I was in grade 7, and I knew when I listened to it that I needed to learn how to play like those guys. I initially wanted to take up bass, however, my father told me that I should be the lead, so I took up guitar instead (I took up the bass a few months later too!). I was self taught for the first two years, however, I realized that with some solid theory classes, I would be able to progress much faster. I took guitar theory lessons for a year and a half, as well as did my RCM grade one theory (which was boring like hell). It was definetely worth it, I wrote my first song after playing guitar for a year (Burning Effigy's "Destruction"). This song was the stepping stone to bigger and larger pieces of music, and the passion for writing has never gone away.
